Topic: Instrument Families, Jazz, Steady Beat, Rhythm 

Standards Taught:

1c: Sing form memory songs from diverse cultures

6b: Describe music by moving to it

6c: Use appropriate terms to explain music performances

6d: Identify the sounds of various instruments. 

Learning Targets: 

1. Students will learn about Jazz music and be able to define the genre as well as important figures in Jazz history. 

2. Students will sing using their singing voices. 

3. Students will identify differences in two different performances. 

4. Students will move to music and show different parts of a song (high/low, fast/slow, loud/soft) 

5. Students will take a Jazz assessment quiz. 

6. Students will be able to identify the instruments of the string, brass, woodwind, and percussion family. 

7. Students will listen to various instruments and be able to identify what instrument is playing.

- Discuss the different instrument families: string, woodwind, brass, and percussion

5. Students will come up with their own movements for what they hear in the music.
