Standards Taught:

1a: Sing independently maintaining a steady beat.

2a: Play instruments in rhythm

2b: Perform melodies on appropriate instruments.

5a: Read quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests in duple meter

6a: Listen to and identify form.

6b: Describe music by answering questions about it.

9c: Identify uses of music in everyday life

Learning Targets: 

1. Students will be able to understand and demonstrate classroom rules and procedures. 

2. Students will sing using their singing voices. 

3. Students will match pitch. 

4. Students will play on instruments

5. Students will be able to identify quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests, and sixteenth notes.

6. Students will be able to perform various rhythms using body percussion and/or instruments

7. Students will be able to identify the line and space notes on a Treble Clef. 

8. Students will be able to hold the recorder the right way, blow the correct air into a recorder, and play the beginning notes BAG.

9. Students will play Hot Cross Buns, Gently Sleep, and Mary Had a Little Lamb on recorder. 

10. Students will be able to identify a call and response song.

11. Students will be able to identify the musical form of a song. 

12. Students will be able to identify a Call and Response song. 

13. Students will discuss call and response in African American Spirituals.

   * Students will be put into groups

   * Teacher will play a rhythm (different levels of rhythms per grade) 

   * Students will have to work together to find the rhythm on the card the teacher played

   * Assessment : reading music, listening, rhythms
